Welch’s “Pancake Bomb” wins first place at the Mid-
American Soft Serve Creative Dessert show in Columbus, Ohio.
Susan Welch of Welch’s Dairy Cream in Norton was at her creative
best before a panel of judges at the Mid-American Restaurant, Soft
Serve & Pizza Expo chose her ice-cream invention, the “Pancake
Bomb” the most creative.
Entries from over a five-state area competed in this first time
event with the winner receiving $125.00
The “Pancake Bomb” consisted of three buttermilk pancakes
with chocolate and vanilla ice cream between each layer, home-made
peanut butter sauce ladled over the top, a whole banana cut in half,
Spanish peanuts sprinkled around the edge, fresh whipped cream with
chocolate sauce drizzled on top and a cherry as the finishing touch.
Welch said the “bomb” was the result of talking to a
Norton minister who said he ate pancakes with peanut butter. “So,
why not a dessert,” she thought.
Although not a item on the menu, Susan Welch still manages to display
her creative abilities with new and unique ice cream desserts.
