Located in the historic section of the Norton- Barberton area, better known as Loyal
Oak, the building was originally constructed as an ice cream
store in the early 1950’s. Ironically, it has maintained
that position through-out the years making it the oldest ice cream
store in Norton. Welch’s Dairy Cream was established in 1985,
making them the fourth owner/operator of this ice cream establishment. Enjoying
the history of the area, with a stagecoach house on one corner and
a restaurant with rumors of underground tunnels on the other, Don
and Susan Welch took ownership and decided to offer an ice cream
made with modern state of the art equipment that constantly produces
the creamiest ice cream reminiscence of the “good old day” with
a modern twist. Wanting to keep the image that has long been
associated with home town local ice cream store, the Welch’s
decided not to become commercialized but rather to keep the “mom
and pop” element that helped make the community and our country.
